Sussex County Lifesaving Association Partners with Coastal Dermatology & Big Chill Beach Club to Offer Free Skin Cancer Screenings for Delaware Ocean Lifeguards
The Sussex County Lifesaving Association (SCLA) is proud to announce a successful community partnership with Coastal Dermatology and the Big Chill Beach Club that provided free skin cancer screening for all SCLA-affiliated lifeguards. This collaborative initiative underscores a shared commitment to protecting those who dedicated their summers to safeguarding the public along Delaware’s coast. Held at the scenic Big Chill Beach Club, the event combined essential health services with a relaxed beachside atmosphere. Lifeguards received professional skin evaluations from the skilled team at Coastal Dermatology, whose board-certified specialists volunteered their time and expertise to help detect early signs of skin cancer – a vital service for those who spend hours in the sun daily.
“This initiative is about taking care of the people who take care of us,” said SCLA President Matt Farlow. “Our lifeguards are exposed to intense sun exposure all season long, and we’re incredibly grateful to Coastal Dermatology for helping us prioritize their health.” Special thanks go to DJ Hook for keeping the vibes high with live music throughout the event, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere. Thank you to the Big Chill Beach Club for generously providing the venue and showing continued support for local public safety efforts.
“We’re proud to play a role in supporting our local heroes,” said Matt Garbutt, Director of Marketing & Branding at Big Chill Beach Club. “This event is a perfect example of what can happen when the community comes together for a good cause.”
The SCLA hopes this event will inspire more preventative care efforts in the future, reinforcing the importance of sun safety and regular skin checks – especially for those who spend their days under the sun to protect others.
