Delaware National Guard Swears in Honorary Commanders
The Class of 2018 Honorary Commanders were officially sworn into the Delaware National Guard on February 28th at a meeting of the Delaware Chamber of Commerce’s Joint Military Affairs Committee. Each year, the Delaware National Guard partners with 30 community leaders to increase awareness and understanding of the Delaware National Guard Mission.
The Honorary Commander program is a year-long program where civilian leaders partner with military leaders and shadow a military unit. This partnership informs and educates our civilian leaders on the Delaware National Guard and fosters an exchange of ideas from the civilian perspective as well. The Honorary Commanders have the chance to visit our troops during training, tour our facilities, receive hands-on experience with training aids, and culminates with an orientation flight in a military aircraft. The result is strong relationships between civilian and military leaders.
