Jewell awarded Captain William O. Murray Scholarship
Lily Divine Jewell has been named the 2026 recipient of the Captain William O. Murray Scholarship by the Delaware Community Foundation. The scholarship, valued at $8,000, has been awarded annually since 2001 to a student who “exhibits a strong commitment to civic and community service” and is funded through the Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation and the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce.
Salutatorian of Delmarva Christian High School’s Class of 2026, President of the Student Leadership Council, head of the Spiritual Life Committee, Community Group Leader, spiritual leader of the volleyball team, and member of National Honor Society and Ambassador Club, Jewell is described as someone who “naturally promotes a positive climate and culture in any community setting she enters.”
She has accumulated over 600 hours of community service throughout her high school career, spending her time outside of school hours volunteering in her church’s K-5th Sunday School, food pantry, and Vacation Bible School summer camps. Other service projects include those for Fenwick Island Nursing Homes, Blessing Baskets Ministry, Operation Christmas Child, and Fellowship of Christian Athlete Power Camps.
Jewell plans to continue her education at a post-secondary institution in the fall and remain an active volunteer and member of the local community.
William “Bill” Murray was an Ocean View native and active community member who helped to found the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce. The community service-based scholarship was established in his memory “because of the role Bill had played in improving the quality of life in this area.” The Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation has historically given two renewable scholarships each year (a value of $8,000 for each scholarship, being $2,000 for up to four (4) years).
