“CRAFT: A producer who uses traditional methods, materials and ingredients to create a handcrafted product, and has a connection and understanding of the end consumer.” Celebrate all things “Craft” at the Lewes Historical Society’s Crafts & Crafts Festival on Saturday, October 5, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, October 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Over 50 local and regional artisans will be joined by local craft breweries, and a local Meadery for the two-day event.

Artists demonstrating their crafts will be joined by LHS’s historic interpreters who will educate attendees on the historic process of creating similar goods. The demonstrations will include the centuries-old method of dying cloth conducted by Lucie Allen using a goldenrod dye. Historic interpreter Breanna Duncan will demonstrate one of the oldest crafts in human history – basket weaving. The contemporary artist demonstrations throughout the weekend will include the making of a resin montage by Ed Symonds, a glass-blowing demonstration by Luckie, plein-air painting by Bob Hunter, weaving on a rigid heddle loom by Nancy Imphong, collage art by Heidi Blake, wood turning by Mike Nichols, and others.

Workshops will be in full swing throughout the weekend conducted by the Developing Artists Collaboration from Rehoboth. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own personal works of art with the DAC’s interactive guidance.

Beer, wine, and mead tasting are included with your admission (for attendees 21+), and sponsored by Dogfish Head Brewery, Crooked Hammock Brewery, and Brimming Horn Meadery. Food will be available from Fat Vinny’s on both days, Hammer & Horns, and Kacey’s Kitchen on Saturday, and Sabor Latino, Falling off the Bone BBQ, and Pretzelvania food trucks on Sunday.

Visitors will be treated to the musical talents of Monkee Paw, and The Stims on Saturday, and musician Ben Davis and The Stims again on Sunday.

The Lewes Historical Society’s historical buildings will be open including the Sussex Tavern and the Society’s Coffee House. The Sussex Gardeners will also be on the historic campus selling baked goods and drinks. Admission is $10 per person, children 12 and under are free! Well-behaved pets are welcome.
